Adopt-an-Island
The Adopt-an-Island Program provides a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to directly demonstrate community pride by adopting a median island (or multiple islands) to beautify and maintain. By participating in the Adopt-an-Island Program, you'll be helping to create a cleaner, more beautiful Novato, while also establishing habitat for pollinators and preventing litter from entering our waterways.
Beautification and maintenance activities include litter removal, weeding, planting, and mulching. These activities can either be performed by volunteers or adopters can hire a professional landscape contractor to beautify and maintain the adopted island(s).
If you are interested in participating in the program, please submit this form and request a copy of the Program Guidelines & Safety Requirements by emailing: sustainability@novato.org
Resilient Neighborhoods
Resilient Neighborhoods (RN) brings people together and empowers them to reduce their household CO 2 emissions, lower their bills, and create communities that are resilient to the impacts of climate change by offering free, online climate action workshops throughout Marin County. RN has helped nearly 2000+ people reduce over 13 million pounds of carbon emissions and be more prepared for an emergencies. The RN workshop series has a range of actions to choose from and is ideal for anyone who is concerned about climate change and wants to do something about it. Free workshops are scheduled throughout Marin County year round.
ExtraFood
ExtraFood’s mission is to help end hunger and wasted food, while also fighting climate change in Marin, where 49,000 people worry about their next meal. Through its county-wide food recovery program, ExtraFood is the only organization that picks up excess food from any business or school and immediately delivers it to safety net partners serving Marin’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families.
Working closely with the programs they serve, ExtraFood locates, recovers, and delivers food donations that match each program’s needs, including fresh produce, prepared food, dairy products, eggs, meat, packaged goods and baked goods. ExtraFood is always looking for volunteers to collect food and outlets to donate the recovered food. If you work for a Marin business or school that may have food to donate, you’re interested in volunteering as a “food runner,” or you work for a Marin nonprofit that is in need of food, please visit ExtraFood.org.
