2023 Marin County local Hazard Mitigation Plan

Every few years the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is updated. The plan presents projects focused on reducing the impacts of natural hazards like sea level rise, wildfire, floods, and more!

Public input is critical to help direct the work that would most benefit the communities lived experiences.

Be Prepared

Every disaster, whether it affects one person or millions, has one thing in common...it is disruptive. The greater the impact, the more it disrupts those things we depend upon and often take for granted. Universal emergency or disaster education and preparedness means everyone, regardless of age or circumstance, needs to devote the time, resources and energy to understand and benefit from being "ready" for any type of an emergency.

Know Your Evacuation Route

Maps are now available, in English and Spanish, showing Novato's evacuation routes in the event of a disaster. Remember: when you hear the Hi-Lo siren it's time to go!

Prepare Now

In Novato, we offer a free 2-hour course to prepare you and yours in an emergency. Check out a Get Ready training today.

Go beyond the basics and get Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, which is offered throughout Marin County. For more information, go to Ready Marin.

Stay Informed

Receive emergency alerts by phone, text and e-mail for your neighborhood, even when you are not home. Register your phones and e-mail addresses at

www.alertmarin.org to receive local emergency alerts sent by call, text, or e-mail from the County of Marin Office of Emergency Services, and
www.nixle.com to receive emergency messages and related information from both the Novato Police Department and Novato Fire District.

Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA)--MERA is a collection of public agencies formed in partnership to provide and operate a public safety radio system. As such, MERA provides a crucial communications delivery system that is interoperable between public agencies in order to efficiently and effectively facilitate critical (emergency) communications.
Novato Fire District--in partnership with the City of Novato, provides emergency management service to the Novato community.

Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

The City of Novato EOC is jointly-operated by the City of Novato and Novato Fire District and provides centralized emergency response and management to the Novato community in a major emergency or disaster. The level of EOC staffing depends upon the situation. The EOC is located at the Novato Fire District Administrative Office at 95 Rowland Way.
