Earthen & Concrete Ditches
The Street Division maintains a variety of earthen and concrete ditches.  Each year as part of our winter preparation 36,000 linear feet of natural and 8000 linear feet concrete ditches are inspected and cleaned if required.

DrainageCulverts & Bridges
The Street crew routinely inspects 35 street culverts and 15 bridges for damages.  The inspection focuses on failure in the roadway surface, drains, wing walls, banks, revetments, and upstream head wall for material deposits, scour, erosion or other damages.

Open Space Inlets & Retention Basins
Street crew personnel also inspect and clean all City open space drainage facilities and basins.   When time permits, facilities belonging to others are identified and owners contacted to clean and repair their facilities.  Each structure is checked for proper protective device such a grate, trash rack, wing wall, rip rap or apron.  Street Personnel also inspect upstream of each facility check for floatable and hazardous debris that can reduce runoff capacity, cause erosion and structural damage to the facility.

As part of our emergency operations many of these same drainage system are inspected and cleaned before, during and after each storm occasion. Our proactive efforts, have prepared our drainage facilities for the winter storms and effectively reduces local flooding.
