LED Streetlight Conversion Program
By the end of 2015, we will have converted approximately 4,500 lights to energy-efficient LEDs throughout Novato, saving precious resources and our community more than $100,000 annually in maintenance and energy costs.
The project has been completed in phases:
Phase I and Phase II: Approximately 1,425 streetlights were converted to energy efficient lighting. Phase I focused on main streets and roadways. Phase II focused on residential areas. Included in the project are approximately 300 programmable photo cells that turn streetlights off at midnight and back on at 5:30 am if it is still dark outside. This results in an additional 50% budgetary and energy savings to the City. Each of the programmable photo cell installations is reviewed by traffic engineering prior to installation, which takes into consideration road configuration, intersections, bus stops, and other criteria that determines whether or not the installation will take place.
Phase III: Phase III began in Spring 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. All remaining streetlights will be converted to LED.
