In addition to a general update of data, policies and programs, the General Plan Update will focus on specific areas of the community that are likely to change and could benefit from careful planning. Staff identified several areas for potential focus areas and gathered public input through the City’s new on-line public forum, Open Novato, to prioritize these areas.

At its October 7, 2013 meeting, the Planning Commission reviewed an updated work program, and provided its recommendation to the City Council on the selection of focus areas for future community workshops. At its October 22, 2013 meeting, the City Council approved the following focus areas:

North Redwood Boulevard Corridor  

North, North Redwood Boulevard (from San Marin Drive to the Birkenstock site) 

Northwest Quadrant

 Hamilton

At the June 28, 2016 Council meeting, the City Council authorized the following focus area:
