Planning Commission Approves First & Grant Mixed Use Project

Post Date:11/06/2018 9:30 AM

On Monday, November 5, the City of Novato Planning Commission unanimously approved the First and Grant- Mixed Use Development at the former Pini Hardware site and adjacent parking lot at 1107 Grant Avenue. The building has been vacant since 2004.

The Planning Commission approval moves forward the construction of a three-story mixed-use building consisting of 32 one- and two-bedroom, residential rental units on the second and third stories, which will eventually transition to for-sale condominiums. The new development will include 47 residential parking spaces onsite and five commercial parking spaces.

The approval followed a year of public meetings including a neighborhood meeting, two Design Review Commission meetings, and culminated with the Nov. 5 Planning Commission meeting.

“This project is a catalyst for our Downtown,” said City Manager Regan Candelario. “With more residents to patronize our businesses and a well-designed mixed-use building where one hasn’t existed for almost 15 years—we are turning a key corner in our City Center and adding much needed energy and activation on the west end of Grant Avenue.”
