Not In Our Town Film Screening and Community Discussion on May 17
The City of Novato, Novato Police Department, Novato Unified School District, Not In Our Town (NIOT) and local community organizations are launching an effort to build equity and inclusion in Novato with a community screening of Light in the Darkness on Thursday, May 17 from 6-8pm at the Hill Education Center, 720 Diablo Avenue in Novato. Join concerned civic leaders, educators, community members, students and parents for this FREE film screening, community discussion and introduction to Not In Our Town.
The NIOT PBS film, Light in the Darkness, is about a town coming together to take action after an immigrant was killed in a hate crime attack by a group of high school students. The film aims to frame a discussion about what local residents can do to prevent a similar tragedy and build a more inclusive community for everyone. The screening will be followed by a youth panel, community discussion and a call for follow up activities and events in the community.
This community screening and discussion serves as an important first step for NIOT to build community support, increase inclusion and ensure the safety of all Marin County residents.
This film screening event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP
