With armed forces once stationed at Hamilton Field, Novato has long been home to a community of America's finest. To honor and thank the city’s veterans for their sacrifice and dedication in protecting the U.S. we are proud to shine a spotlight on some of our community’s heroes who have served with such great distinction.

41 Novato veterans were recently photographed by local marketing agency Kiosk for the City of Novato’s Novato Proud initiative. The group included veterans who served in World War II, the Vietnam War, in Korea, Guam, and post-occupation Europe, and across different branches of the military, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, US Coast Guard, and the U.S. Marine Corps.

Novato‘s veterans come from a wide range of military careers including Pharmacist’s Mate John Craig, Air Force Communications Specialist Stan Cudia, and U.S. Coast Guard Electronics Technician James Harais. Our veterans have served around the world in locations such as Iceland, Hawaii, Germany, and Novato’s own Hamilton Air Force Base.

We’re proud that Novato’s veterans have earned some incredible honors. U.S. Army First Lieutenant John Heaton was awarded two Bronze Stars for Combat Activity during his time serving in Vietnam, and Staff Sergeant Jim Henderson of the U.S. Army received a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action from his service in World War II, to name just a few.

This Veterans Day, and year round, we give thanks to all those who have served. Find out more about the veterans in our community by visiting the Novato Proud website.
