About Not In Our Town
Not In Our Town is a movement to stop hate, address bullying and build safe, inclusive communities for all. It’s a project of The Working Group, an Oakland-based nonprofit founded in 1988. The organization bases its approach on the premise that real change takes place at the local level. Not In Our Town combines documentary storytelling with on-the-ground training, social media and organizing tools to help local leaders build vibrant, diverse cities and towns where all are safe, included and respected, niot.org
About the Documentary " Light in the Darkness"
"Light in the Darkness" is a one-hour documentary about a town coming together to take action after anti-immigrant violence devastates the community. In 2008, a series of attacks against Latino residents of Patchogue, New York culminate with the murder of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant who had lived in the Long Island village for 13 years.
