UPDATE: Black Walnut Trees at Dogbone Meadow Dog Park
In November 2016, City staff held a community workshop as part of the Dogbone Meadow Improvement project to define needs and wishes of the park users.

One of the topics of conversation at the workshop was the 13 walnut trees planted about 14 years ago as part of the original dog park design. Some park users requested the walnut trees be removed claiming they are harmful to dogs, while others wanted to keep these mature trees because they provide a lot of desired shade.

The City, made aware of differing opinions on the walnut trees among the park users, actively investigated. An arborist was hired to research this controversial subject.  The Arborist recommended the trees be retained, and the walnuts be regularly picked up. Please see Arborist Report for more information.
