Register your bikes and motorized bikes through the National Bike Registry (NBR), a national registration system that helps return lost and stolen bicycles to their rightful owners.

Instead of registering bikes and motorized bikes at the Police Department, the City Municipal Code was amended in October 2004 to allow bikes to be registered through NBR. Registration information is available at the Police Department, online at www.nationalbikeregistry.com or by calling 1-800-848-BIKE.

NBR is an inexpensive means to put a tamper-resistance label on your bike and enter its description and owner information in a nationwide data base. If your bike is stolen, police will be able to retrieve your bike’s serial number for entry into law enforcement data bases and if your bike is found it helps law enforcement return it to you.

Marked property may also deter theft due to resale difficulties. Novato Police estimates we are currently only able to return about 2% of found bikes to their owners
