Let’s empower our children to lead healthy, active lives. Exposing your children and grandchildren to fun, engaging physical activity is the key to adopting lifelong healthy habits. Developing healthy bodies and healthy minds for life can be a family affair. As we head into the colder days with less sunlight this winter, be sure your kids stay active afterschool and on weekends. Encourage them to try something new, like a gymnastics class or a new sports or dance program, just something to get them moving, and away from the addictive glow of an electronic screen. Remember what it was like to run, jump, kick and play for hours every day, either outside in the neighborhood, at a nearby school, or in a park? Let’s help our children and grandchildren have those happy memories too. Take them to Pioneer Park to hit tennis balls around, to Hoog Park to shoot baskets together, or to Miwok Park to explore the creek and climb around on the playground and ride the swings. Schools have lots of places to play and be physically active too.
The options to be active, both indoors and out, are endless. Take a class that keeps you moving, or simply get outside where you can all be together and walk, run, climb or kick a ball. So get out there this winter and spring with your kids and grandchildren, so that all of you have the healthy bodies and healthy minds that ensure a happier life. See you out there!
