Novato School of Dance Faculty
Sandy Taylor has been teaching tap, jazz, pre-ballet and hip hop to a variety of ages for 28 years. "My joy is seeing dancers of all ages enjoy themselves as they develop their dance skills and abilities through the years. My goal is to impart a love of music, dance and movement in all who I come in touch with".
Megan has been teaching dance and fitness classes in Northern California for more than 10 years. She has a Bachelor’s of Creative Arts degree, with an emphasis in dance and musical theater. Megan loves being an instructor for Novato School of Dance!
Lydia has been teaching and choreographing a variety of dance styles for over 30 years. She trained with San Francisco Ballet and performed in the Nutcracker Suite for 10 years before moving to New York City to extend her dance career to other genres. She professionally danced in three national musical theatre tours and then went on to dance in music videos. She is excited to now be passing her dance knowledge to children here in Novato where she lives with her husband and daughter.
NOVATO SCHOOL OF DANCE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES:
Pre-Ballet I & II: Hair must be worn up in a bun or pony tail and tightly secured; hair that gets
in their face can be very distracting for young dancers. Dancers need to wear a leotard, tights,
and pink leather ballet shoes. Absolutely NO BARE FEET IN CLASS!
Ballet I & II: Hair must be worn up in a bun and tightly secured. Dancers need to wear black leotards (any sleeve length) is fine, pale pink tights and pink leather or canvas ballet shoes. In cold weather a ballet wrap may be worn in class; ballet skirts are allowed.
Jazz Dance - Beginning & Intermediate: Black jazz shoes must be worn. Any style of leotard, tights or dance pants. Hair should be worn up and out of face.
Pre-Tap & Tap: Tap shoes and comfortable clothing that does not restrict the dancer’s movement.
Hip Hop: Tennis shoes and comfortable clothing that does not restrict the dancer’s movement. NO DRESSES OR SKIRTS IN CLASS PLEASE.
*Teen & Adult Lyrical Jazz & Hip Hop classes are permitted to wear whatever they are most comfortable in. Jazz shoes are recommended.
**Jazz and Ballet shoes may be purchased at Children’s Boot Shop, 826 Grant Ave., 897-1460. Dance shoes (including Tap shoes) and apparel my be purchased at The Dance Shop in Petaluma, (707) 778-3188 or San Rafael, 459-4008. Sometimes leather ballet shoes are available at Payless Shoe Source. The best place to shop online (of you know your size) is discountdancesupply.com.
There will be no refunds for missed classes. If a class is canceled due to an unexpected teacher illness or absence, parents will be called regarding a make-up class. Classes must start on time in order to warm up properly and prevent injury. Please pick up your children promptly after class from the studio. They must stay with the teacher until they see you.
A $10 LATE PICK UP FEE WILL BE PAID BY THE PARENTS TO THE TEACHER AFTER A 10-MINUTE POST CLASS GRACE PERIOD.
Observing Class: Parents are welcome to sit in the lobby during class and peak in from time to time. We will observe the last 5 minutes of every class for the children to perform for their parents.
Performances/Recitals: Pre-Ballet I & II, Hip-Hop (ages 6-8), & Pre-Tap classes will perform in costume for parents and friends on their last day of class. Costume for this performance will be borrowed from Novato School of Dance.
Ballet I, Jazz Dance - Beginning & Intermediate, Hip-Hop (ages 9-12), & Tap Dance classes will perform Dec. 6 the City of Novato Holiday Craft Fair. The fee f th or costumes is included in the class price.
A full length recital, incorporating all the dance classes will tack place in May. Make sure you sign up your kids for our Spring session so they don’t miss out on the fun!
