Apply Now for Novato Police Department's Community Police Academy
The Novato Police Department is proud to announce the 11th installment of the Community Police Academy. The Community Academy is an eight-week, nine-session overview of the Novato Police Department and law enforcement in our community. Each session will be presented on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9pm with the exception of a 4-hour field exercise training day, which will be held on Saturday, May 12. The first session will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
While at the Community Academy, participants are introduced to a variety of law enforcement topics designed to provide an overview of the police department's function as well as its operational procedures. Police officers and civilian employees teach the classes and over the course of the nine-week program, participants will have the opportunity to meet with the Chief of Police and other staff members to further build community partnerships.
The curriculum for the Community Academy includes but is not limited to: community policing concepts; crime scene investigations; special response teams and units; 9-1-1 communications; professional standards and ethics; use of force; investigative procedures; current legal issues; property and evidence; and much more. There will also be an opportunity to go on a ride-along with a police officer.
The Community Academy class size is limited so please submit your application as soon as possible. To obtain an application or learn about program requirements, please contact the Novato Police Department at (415) 897-4361 or visit novato.org/communityacademy.
The final date to submit completed applications is Monday, March 19, 2018.
Also, don’t forget! Our Spanish language Academy will continue with the second installment this fall! Our Spanish-Only speaking residents will have the same opportunity to get to know the police department as our English speaking community. Last year’s inaugural academy was a huge success and we’re excited to offer it again this year. Check back this summer for dates and application information!
