Novato Community Affected By Las Vegas Tragedy

Post Date:10/03/2017 5:30 PM

This past Sunday, our country experienced yet another horrific act of senseless violence, this time in Las Vegas. As has happened too many times before, the joy and happiness of the moment was shattered and in an instant became terror and fear.

As a nation, we grieve with the families and friends of those who were killed. Our thoughts are with the injured and we wish them speedy recoveries. We know, however, that for many the memory of Sunday's event will be lasting and painful.

We ask ourselves why, and of course, there may never be an answer to that question. We struggle to understand that which may not have a reason beyond the twisted logic of a very troubled individual. There is simply no reason that will make sense.

We ask every Novato resident to keep the victims and their families in their foremost thoughts. As a community, we offer our particular condolences to the family and friends of Novato resident Stacee Etcheber, whose life was taken in this tragic event. We hope the knowledge that the Novato community grieves with them provides a measure of comfort to the Etcheber family.

A candlelight vigil will be held tonight at San Ramon Elementary School, 45 San Ramon Way, at 7pm with support from the San Francisco Police Officers Association, the Novato Unified School District and the Novato Community. Parking is limited and people are encouraged to walk or rideshare. Drivers – please watch carefully for pedestrians.
