Recap of 6/6 City Council Meeting

Novato second grader and Mayor for a Day Ava Abate convened the Council meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Ava was presented with a certificate recognizing her a Mayor for a Day for June 6, 2017.
The City Council presented the Age-Friendly Novato Task Force with a proclamation recognizing them for their work towards achieving Novato's designation as an AARP/World Health Organization Age-Friendly Community. AARP's Associate State Director Rafi Nazarians presented the City of Novato with a certificate recognizing the City as the 162nd community to join AARP's Age-Friendly Communities Network. AARP/World Health Organization's Age-Friendly Cities and Communities is an international effort launched in 2006 to help cities prepare for rapidly aging populations and the parallel trend of urbanization. Cynthia Gregory from the Novato Community Hospital gave a presentation to the City Council which included an overview of the hospital's accomplishments and initiatives.
The City Council held a moment of silence for Novato resident Dietrich Stroeh and viewed a tribute video in his honor.
COUNCILMEMBER/CITY MANAGER REPORTS/AGENDA REQUESTS
CONSENT CALENDAR - Council approved all items
Authorized the City Manager to sign amendment No. 1 to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Novato Fire Protection District and a revised Consultant Services Agreement for emergency services management
Council reviewed and discussed the City Budget for 2017/18 fiscal year. The City budget process for the 2017/18 fiscal year began in February 2017 and has included a series of community workshops held on March 25, March 30, and April 5 in Hamilton, San Marin and Downtown; the Capital Improvement Program City Council work session on April 18, 2017, the Operating Budget work session on April 25, 2017, and continued discussion and budget direction received from the City Council at its May 9 & 16, 2017 and June 6, 2017 meetings. The City Council will hold a budget hearing at their June 13, 2017 meeting to consider adopting the budget. The Proposed 2017/18 Budget is available online at novato.org/citybudget.
Council received a presentation and directed staff to send a letter to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) commenting on the Draft Bay Area 2040 and its associated environmental impact report.
Council adjourned their meeting in memory of Dietrich Stroeh and shared their memories of Diet.
