Miwok Park Trail Landslide Update

Post Date:02/27/2017 11:29 AM

Image of Miwok Trail landslideA heavy rain season has caused a landslide at Miwok Park along the southeast side of Novato Creek near the San Miguel Way park entrance, just north of the pedestrian bridge. As the slide is still active, the City has closed the area to ensure public safety. The slide has destroyed about 100 feet of a popular trail that connects the neighborhoods east and west of Miwok Park. The City requests that pedestrians use alternate routes along the neighborhood streets and sidewalks and refrain from attempting to walk across, above or below the slide. Warning signs, in both English and Spanish, have been posted at both ends of the trail to further warn park users to avoid the area for their safety.

The City has enlisted the services of a geotechnical engineering firm to evaluate the condition of the Miwok Park landslide and propose recommendations to stabilize the area. Once the geotechnical recommendation is received, the City will evaluate options and implement repairs in the area--this process will take at least 3-4 months.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to address this slide and other storm damage in and around Novato.
